Nothing/Dust

Nothing.

I
am
nothing
not even
a particle:
atomic or subatomic:
Not positive, nor negative
I’m not even neutral.

Nothing,
am
I?
Is there
a reason
I stand before you
when you can’t even
see, touch, or hear me?

Am
I
nothing?
Does the
wind carry
my words when it blows?
Do they even reach you?
If they do, do you care?

I
am
nothing
not even
a speck of dust,
or the stain
on your couch

Nothing
am
I?
the tango
that our
tongues danced
do you even
remember the steps?

Am
I
nothing?
Is there
a trace
of me buried in
the depths of
your hippocampus?

Dust.

If stars,
in their
infinite brightness,
can one day
turn into dust

who’s to
say that
I, in my infinite dullness,
won’t also
turn into dust.
